In cooperation with eShipGlobal, the U-M is offering a comprehensive packaging and shipping service for hazardous materials and dry ice packages.

All non-hazardous shipments should continue to be processed through UPS CampusShip(link is external).

USING eShipGlobal

This shipping service will reduce the time, effort, and risk for you to ship a package by:

1. Having staff pick-up your shipments directly from the lab
2. Ensuring appropriate packaging is used
3. Ensuring documentation is compliant with all regulations
4. Staging the package for courier pickup

Step 2 - Complete required shipping information
Step 3 - Submit the request
Once your request is submitted you will receive confirmation that your request is being processed by the system administrator.

• Coming Soon - Screens the Restricted Party & Embargoed Countries lists for export control
• Broker’s information can be provided for efficient clearing of Customs in the destination country
• University contact information provided for permits and/or licenses as required

Cost Effective
This shipping service will reduce the time, effort, and risk for you to ship a package by:

• You only pay for the courier cost
• Allows for easy rate comparisons between couriers
• Required packaging materials, including dry ice, cold pack, UN regulated boxes, labels, etc. are provided at no cost when using the shipping service
• Departments using this service and providing correct content information will not be liable for any subsequent fines resulting from non-compliant shipments

Reducing Risk
• The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is legally authorized to issue a civil fine of $75,000 for each violation
• Departments using this service and providing correct content information will not be liable for any subsequent fines resulting from non-compliant shipment

Before offering hazardous materials for shipments you must successfully complete the appropriate training course(s).

BLS204w – ONLINE REQUIRED- Shipping Regulations for Shipping Materials with Dry Ice
This course fulfills the requirements for: Shipping Regulations for Shipping Materials with Dry Ice.

BLS209w – ONLINE REQUIRED- Regulations for Shipping Biologics: Infectious Substances Category B
This course fulfills the requirements for: Regulations for Shipping Biologics: Infectious Substances Category B, Dry Ice, certain Chemical Preservatives, Exempt Specimens, and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). Note: BLS209w – Category B training fulfills the requirements for most U-M shipments.

Each of these courses must be documented and completed every two years.
