Although M-Ship will prepare the package for shipment, you are considered the shipper of record and are responsible for answering any questions related to the contents. Ultimately, each shipper is responsible for correctly classifying the materials he or she intends to ship and must complete the training. The training provides information for the proper classification of materials that will be shipped and will ensure that the M-Ship staff have the appropriate information to properly package your materials. 

eShipGlobal(link is external) ensures the proper shipping of hazardous materials using a web based service. This service assures proper shipping of hazardous materials from the Ann Arbor campus.

A hazardous material is any item or agent (biological, chemical, radiological, and/or physical), which has the potential to cause harm to humans, animals, or the environment, either by itself or through interaction with other factors.

No, but there are campus resources that can help with the excluded items.

Any U-M employee that has received the proper training from Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and is shipping for university business. The level of training necessary depends on the classification of materials a person intends to ship. Further information on the training and categories of materials covered with each class is available HERE.

You only pay for the courier cost, required packaging material, including dry ice, cold pack, UN regulated boxes, labels, etc. are provided at no cost when using the shipping service.

Your shipment will be picked up and shipped the same day, provided all the information is complete and accurate.
